Miami Beach voted 4-3 on September 10, 2026 to let its city manager negotiate a discreet Grand Theft Auto VI campaign on the sand. The pitch, as reported from the commission meeting, is Vice City and the Roman numeral VI on privately run Boucher Brothers chairs and umbrellas. It is not a signed contract, and it is not a Rockstar Newswire post.

The official setting of the game is still the fictional state of Leonida, with Vice City as one city inside it. A real Florida beach branding a parody of itself does not rewrite that sentence.

What the vote actually did

The Miami Beach City Commission did not stamp a finished media plan. Coverage of the September 10 meeting, including GamesRadar+ and Kotaku, describes an authorization to negotiate. Terms can still move. The whole thing can still fall apart.

That distinction matters because some writeups flattened the vote into “Miami approved GTA 6 ads.” Miami Beach is one city. The City of Miami and Miami-Dade County are different governments with their own talks. Mixing those three is how a beach-chair vote turns into a fake airport takeover.

Commissioner Laura Dominguez, as quoted in later reports of the same meeting, called the look discreet and said most people would read the numeral as “V” or “VI” and move on. Commissioner Tanya Katzoff Bhatt argued the game is arriving in the area whether the city takes money or not. Commissioner Monica Matteo-Salinas said she has played the series and called the idea a win for gamers. Commissioner David Suarez opposed it and showed footage from GTA V and the Extended Look to argue the city had spent years distancing itself from a lawless spring-break image.

Those are political quotes from a public meeting. They are not Rockstar product copy.

Three South Florida talks, not one deal

As of September 11, 2026, the civic map looks like this:

Miami-Dade CountyA wider airport, port, and transit ideaTalks only, and facing opposition

If a later headline says “Miami” without naming the government, check which one. This page only owns the Miami Beach chair-and-umbrella vote.

What this does not change about the game

Leonida is still fiction. Florida is the inspiration, not a licensed street grid. Rockstar has not published a 1:1 Miami map, a real-world scale, or a tourism partnership on rockstargames.com/VI.

Launch is still November 19, 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Pre-orders opened June 25. Standard is $79.99. Ultimate is $99.99 and digital only. PC is unannounced. A beach umbrella with a VI on it does not unlock the game early, add a collector edition, or confirm GTA Online for launch.

Sony’s separate Tokyo Game Show theater is the other live marketing beat this week. That one is a 300-inch screening of footage you can already watch at home. This one is a Florida city arguing about chairs.

If Miami Beach posts a signed agreement, or Rockstar publishes the campaign itself, this news record stays dated and the Vice City and Florida guides pick up the standing facts.

The homepage countdown still points at November 19. The chairs, if they happen, are scenery around that date.

FAQ

Did Miami Beach approve GTA 6 ads?

On September 10, 2026, the Miami Beach City Commission voted 4-3 to let the city manager negotiate a discreet campaign. That is an authorization to talk, not a signed contract.

What would the ads actually show?

Commission discussion, as reported, pointed to Vice City and the Roman numeral VI on privately run Boucher Brothers beach chairs and umbrellas. Not Grand Theft Auto wordmarks on lifeguard stands.

When would the ads appear?

The window discussed at the meeting runs from mid-October through the end of 2026, around the November 19 launch, and not during Art Basel in early December.

How much money is Miami Beach getting?

Coverage of the meeting cited a figure in the $3 million to $4 million range. That is a negotiation target reported from the debate, not a posted Rockstar payment.

Is this the same as the City of Miami or Miami-Dade deals?

No. Miami Beach, the City of Miami, and Miami-Dade County are separate governments with separate talks.

Does this change the GTA 6 map?

No. The official setting is still the fictional state of Leonida, including Vice City. A real beach-chair campaign does not make Leonida a 1:1 Miami map.

Is this a Rockstar Newswire post?

No. Rockstar has not published a first-party Miami Beach marketing brief on the official VI hub. This page records the city vote as reported.

Can you pre-order from a beach chair?

No. Pre-orders stay on official PlayStation, Xbox, Rockstar, and retailer storefronts. The game still launches November 19, 2026.
