Estimate your GTA 6 download time
GTA VI’s final download and install sizes are not confirmed in the sources checked. Enter a size you want to test. These calculations are scenarios, not official requirements.
GTA 6 download time depends on two numbers: the amount you download and the speed your console actually sustains. Rockstar has not published a final download size in the official sources checked on October 11, 2026. The calculator above tests a size you choose; its default is an example, not a GTA VI requirement.
Rockstar confirms that preload begins November 12, 2026 at local midnight, ahead of the November 19 release. That gives you a useful window to prepare. See the official platform and edition details for the dates, and our preload checklist for the practical steps.
How to use the download calculator
Enter a download-size scenario in GB. Enter the speed shown by a recent download or connection test, then select the correct unit. Internet plans commonly use Mbps; download interfaces may show MB/s. Finally, choose the share of that speed you expect to sustain. The default 80% is an adjustable assumption, not a measurement of your network.
The result shows both an ideal transfer and a slower scenario using your chosen percentage. If a store publishes a download size, replace the example with that number. A listing’s required storage can include installed files and may differ from the amount transferred, so use a download figure when one is available. Our file-size tracker keeps that distinction explicit.
What 50, 100 or 300 Mbps means in practice
The following table uses an unconfirmed 150 GB example. These are mathematical scenarios, not GTA VI download predictions. “80% usable” means a sustained speed equal to 80% of the input throughout the transfer.
| Connection speed | Ideal transfer for the example | At 80% usable speed |
|---|---|---|
| 25 Mbps | 13h 20m | 16h 40m |
| 50 Mbps | 6h 40m | 8h 20m |
| 100 Mbps | 3h 20m | 4h 10m |
| 300 Mbps | 1h 6m 40s | 1h 23m 20s |
| 1,000 Mbps | 20m | 25m |
The calculator rounds up to whole minutes. A faster plan reduces the ideal time, but it cannot guarantee the same improvement if Wi-Fi, the console, a busy server or other downloads are the limit.
Mbps vs MB/s: the common eight-times mistake
One byte contains eight bits. A 100 Mbps connection has an ideal transfer rate of 12.5 MB/s. If your console displays 12.5 MB/s, enter 12.5 and select MB/s, or enter 100 and select Mbps. Those inputs should give the same ideal result.
This calculator uses decimal units: one GB equals 1,000 MB. Its formula is seconds = GB × 8,000 ÷ Mbps. The usable-speed result divides that time by your chosen percentage expressed as a fraction. A display using binary units, rounding or changing speeds can differ from the estimate.
Get a useful speed measurement before preload
Check your connection near the time of day you expect to download. Compare a recent large download with a connection test; a short test and a sustained transfer can behave differently. If you use Wi-Fi, try moving the console closer to the access point or use Ethernet where practical. Pause other large downloads while testing.
Run more than one scenario. Your advertised plan speed is an optimistic input; a recent sustained download is often more useful. If your connection has a data cap, check that separately. The tool calculates time, not your provider’s allowance or charges.
Leave room for the steps after downloading
Transfer finishing is not always the same as the game being ready. Installation, verification or a later patch can add work. The calculator does not estimate those steps, and preload does not grant early access. Launch remains November 19, 2026 in Rockstar’s announcement.
Check free space on your console before starting. Physical Standard is a code-in-box with no disc, according to Rockstar, so it also requires a download. For that buying choice, read physical vs digital. For the game and its optional extras, use the edition comparison.

FAQ
How long will GTA 6 take to download?
There is no single confirmed time. It depends on the download size, your sustained connection speed and server conditions. Use the calculator with your own size scenario until an official size is published.
Is 100 Mbps the same as 100 MB/s?
No. There are eight bits in a byte, so 100 Mbps is an ideal 12.5 MB/s before overhead.
Does the calculator include installation time?
No. It estimates network transfer. Installation, verification, updates and interrupted downloads can add time.
