Leonida is the official fictional state in Grand Theft Auto VI. Rockstar named it. It is Florida-inspired. Vice City is inside Leonida, not a stand-in for the whole map. If you only remember the neon skyline from the trailers, you have seen one city in a larger state.
The map hub is the size-and-regions index. Is GTA 6 set in Florida covers the real-world comparison. This page answers the name: what Leonida is, what sits in it, and what fan square-mile posts are not.
The official state, not a leak nickname
Leonida is first-party language. It is not a community code name and not a 2022 leak label we are laundering. Official trailers, the VI hub, and later marketing treat Leonida as the container. Vice City is the city most people can point at. The state is the product setting.
Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos are the confirmed leads in that setting. Their bios live on the characters hub. They do not rename the state.
You will still hear people say “the Florida map” in casual talk. That shorthand is fine in a comment. It is not the official name on this site.

Named places inside Leonida
Rockstar has named more than the city. Official materials have used these region names inside the state:
| Named place | What we treat it as | Official size? |
|---|---|---|
| Vice City | City inside Leonida | No square miles |
| Leonida Keys | Named region | No square miles |
| Port Gellhorn | Named region | No square miles |
| Ambrosia | Named region | No square miles |
| Grassrivers | Named region | No square miles |
| Mount Kalaga National Park | Named region | No square miles |
That table is the confirmed set Leonida Afterhours will repeat. Extra neighborhood names from leak folders or fan reconstructions stay off this page unless Rockstar prints them. The mapping project is fan work. Credit those fans if you look at their maps. Do not paste their streets into this guide as official.
For a location-by-location walkthrough of only confirmed names, use locations and the individual region pages such as Vice City and Leonida Keys.
Florida-inspired, not Florida scanned
Inspiration is the right word. Rockstar builds satire, not a tourism GIS. Highway shapes, wetlands, and coastal cities will remind people of Florida. That does not make Leonida a 1:1 Miami-to-Keys transfer, and it does not give anyone an official scale.
No official square miles. No official drive-time chart. Trailer-based ruler math is a hobby, not a spec. File size is also unannounced and is not a proxy for area.
Weather, wildlife, and water you saw in official footage are part of how the state is sold. They are not a published biome spreadsheet. Keep those sightings on confirmed features as shown, not as a science paper.
What size claims miss
“Biggest GTA map yet” is Rockstar’s comparison. It is not a number you can drop into a thumbnail. Anyone who posts “14 times Vice City” or a fake km² figure is estimating or inventing.
Leonida does not change the calendar. Launch is November 19, 2026. Pre-orders do not include an extra state. Delays already on the record did not rename the setting. A 2028 rumor does not add counties.
If Rockstar names another region on the VI hub, this page adds a row. Until then, Leonida is the fictional Florida-inspired state, Vice City lives inside it, and the rest of the confirmed names are the list above.
