Rockstar’s platform, editions and versions support article is the primary source for the formats and upgrade path. The launch platforms are PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Confirm the platform and account region of any listing you buy.
When Standard is the sensible choice
If your main goal is playing GTA VI, start by comparing Standard. The base game is the reason for the purchase; digital extras should justify their own additional cost. Standard is also sensible if you have not yet decided whether you care about the bonus vehicles, customization and other listed Ultimate benefits.
The separately sold upgrade means an undecided buyer has another decision point later. That does not establish the upgrade’s price in your market, and it does not guarantee that buying the pieces separately will be cheaper. Compare the current local totals rather than assuming a fixed difference everywhere.
When Ultimate may be worth it

Paying more for extras does not establish a different launch date, additional platform support or an announced PC edition. It also does not answer the still-unconfirmed install-size question. Keep those decisions separate from the edition choice.
Digital, code-in-box and the upgrade
Physical Standard is a code-in-box with no disc, according to Rockstar. It is available from November 12, 2026 for preload. You need the code, the appropriate account and a network installation. Ultimate is digital only.

Edition extras and purchase-window bonuses
