GTA 6 preload starts November 12, 2026 at local midnight, according to Rockstar support. Playable launch is November 19. Use the week before release to check your purchase, account, storage and connection; completing a preload does not unlock the game early.
This checklist combines the practical steps. If you need the announcement history rather than preparation, read the preload date guide.
1. Confirm the console and purchase
The announced platforms are PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Check that your purchase is for the console you will use. Standard includes the base game; Ultimate adds the specified digital extras. Neither choice replaces the need to install the game. Our edition selector and comparison helps you decide without treating every bonus as essential.
For a retail purchase, Rockstar identifies physical Standard as a code-in-box with no disc. It is available from November 12 for preload. Receiving a receipt is not the same as having the redeemable code; confirm delivery and redeem it through the appropriate account. See physical vs digital for that distinction.
2. Check your account region and store
Local midnight should be read with Rockstar’s account and store guidance, not as one universal global countdown. Review Rockstar’s pre-order details and the listing attached to your purchase. If the console store presents an availability time for your account, use that information.
Keep your sign-in details accessible before preload night. If the purchase belongs to a different account or console store, resolve that with the store rather than waiting until the download window opens.
3. Measure current playable free space
Check the drive that will run the game, not the total capacity printed on the console box. Our storage preparation guide includes an embedded space check and official PS5/Xbox support links.
The final install size remains unconfirmed in the official sources checked on October 11, 2026. Any GB input you test before publication is a scenario. When your console shows a required-space message, use that requirement. Recheck after other games update.
4. Test a realistic download window
Use the download-time calculator with a recent sustained speed and the right unit. Mbps and MB/s are different: one MB/s equals eight Mbps. Before an official download amount appears, enter an example and treat the result as preparation only.
If your internet allowance is capped, check the remaining allowance as well as the speed. Give the transfer time to finish, and allow for interruptions, installation and later updates. The calculator estimates transfer time; it does not guarantee a completion deadline.
5. Start preload and check the console result
At the applicable window, open your library or store purchase and look for the available download. Check any storage warning and the download status. Preload being complete is useful evidence about your installation, but it does not change the playable launch date.
Avoid third-party “early download” files or login requests. Use the console store associated with your purchase and Rockstar’s official instructions. Follow the release countdown for the date, then return to the console to check its actual unlock and update status.
