GameStop is a retailer, not a second publisher. The product on the shelf is still Grand Theft Auto VI as Rockstar and Take-Two listed it: Standard at $79.99 and Ultimate at $99.99, launching November 19, 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Physical Standard is a code-in-box with no disc. Ultimate is digital only. There is no official Collector’s Edition and no Deluxe or Premium SKU to hunt in the case.

For the all-store version of this advice, use the pre-order guide. For another chain, see Best Buy. For the box vs download problem, see physical vs digital. For extras, see pre-order bonuses. Check the homepage countdown before you rearrange your week around a midnight queue.

Official editions you can actually reserve

Pre-orders opened June 25, 2026 at midnight local time. A GameStop reservation is a hold on one of those official editions, not a unique GameStop build. Rockstar’s editions article is the rules sheet. The VI hub is the product page.

EditionOfficial USD priceWhat GameStop can put in your hand
Standard$79.99Digital license or a physical box that holds a download code
Ultimate$99.99Digital only
Collector / Deluxe / PremiumNot officialDo not buy a fake label

Buy before November 20, 2026 and the official window includes the Vintage Vice City Pack. Digital copies also include one month of GTA+. Those extras come from Rockstar copy, not from a secret GameStop bundle we invented. If a store card adds a steelbook, a controller skin, or a gift card, that is a retailer promotion. Read the sticker in front of you. Do not assume this page listed it.

PC is unannounced. A clerk cannot honestly sell you a PC box for launch day.

What a GameStop box contains

The case is packaging. Official physical Standard exists so stores can sell a box, and so that box can be in your hands in time for the November 12, 2026 preload. You redeem a code and download the game. You do not spin a playable disc.

That surprises people who grew up on last-gen GTA cases. Plan storage the same way you would for a digital purchase. If the store is out of boxes, a digital reservation through the same retailer or through PlayStation / Xbox still lands on the same November 19 play date.

Keep the receipt. Preload is not launch. The countdown is November 19, not November 12.

Trade-ins in general terms

GameStop’s usual model is trade credit toward a new reservation. That can lower what you pay at the register. We will not publish a fake catalog of “your old copy of X is worth $Y toward GTA 6.” Those numbers move by title, condition, and week.

Ask the store for the current offer. Ask whether the credit applies to Standard, Ultimate, or only one platform. Ask what happens if you cancel. None of that changes Rockstar’s edition list. A trade-in is financing with used games, not a third SKU.

Last-gen consoles are not on the official launch list. Trading toward GTA 6 does not make the game run on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One.

Dates that matter more than the store name

June 25, 2026: pre-orders open. November 12, 2026: digital preload and the physical-code window that supports it. November 19, 2026: you can play. November 20, 2026: the official pre-order bonus window is framed around buying before this date. After that, you still buy the game. You may miss the Vintage pack.

Compare GameStop to Best Buy on stock, pickup, and whatever extra the chain is running that week. Compare both to the platform stores if you only want a license and no plastic. Take-Two does not care which register you used if the edition is real.

If a listing says Collector’s Edition, walk away or ask which official edition it actually is. This page will not invent bundles to make a retailer article look busier.
